Kegiatan-kegiatan ini ada pada setiap jenjang pendidikan dari sekolah dasar sampai universitas. Kegiatan ekstrakurikuler ditujukan agar siswa dapat mengembangkan kepribadian, bakat, dan kemampuannya di berbagai bidang di luar bidang akademik. Kegiatan ini diadakan secara swadaya dari pihak sekolah maupun siswa-siswi itu sendiri untuk merintis kegiatan di luar jam pelajaran sekolah.
Kegiatan dari ekstrakurikuler ini sendiri dapat berbentuk kegiatan pada seni, olahraga, pengembangan kepribadian, dan kegiatan lain yang bertujuan positif untuk kemajuan dari siswa-siswi itu sendiri.
Kegiatan ekstrakurikuler sebagai wadah pengembangan potensi peserta didik, dapat memberikan dampak positif dalam penguatan pendidikan karakter. Peserta didik diharapkan dapat mengembangkan karakter profil Pelajar Pancasila yaitu : (1) berkebinekaan global, (2) bergotong royong, (3) kreatif, (4) bernalar kritis, (5) mandiri, dan (6) beriman, bertakwa kepada Tuhan YME, dan berakhlak mulia.
Seperti sekolah pada umumnya SMA Negeri 12 Depok memiliki keunggulan di bidang non akademik (ekskul). Beberapa kegiatan ekstrakurikuler di SMA 12 Depok menjadi wadah siswa-siswi untuk menyalurkan bakatnya di berbagai bidang (olah raga dan seni).
